Sports Club

The Sports Club at Mettu College of Teacher Education plays a vital role in promoting physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and leadership among students. The club organizes regular practice sessions, inter-departmental competitions, and participates in regional tournaments. Sports such as football, volleyball, athletics, and traditional games are actively supported.

The club also serves as a platform for discovering and nurturing student talent in various sports disciplines, while reinforcing the values of health, cooperation, and fair play. Through physical education and organized sports, the club contributes to the holistic development of future educators.

Academic Programs and Mission

MCTE offers diploma-level programs designed to equip future educators with the pedagogical skills and subject matter knowledge needed for effective teaching. These programs align with Ethiopia’s national teacher education framework, which emphasizes both cluster training (for grades 1–4) and linear training (for grades 5–8)

Community Engagement and Extracurricular Activities

Beyond academics, MCTE engages in various community development projects. These include agricultural initiatives such as poultry farming and fish production, aimed at supplementing the college's income and providing practical learning experiences for students

Library

The Mettu College of Teacher Education Library is an important resource center that supports teaching, learning, and research activities for students and staff. 

It contains a wide range of educational materials including textbooks, reference books, research papers, journals, and digital resources. The library offers quiet reading areas, borrowing services, and access to electronic materials to enhance academic success. It plays a key role in improving the quality of teacher education at the college.

The Mettu College of Teacher Education Library is open from Monday to Friday, from 2:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. local time (Ethiopian time), which corresponds to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. international time. The library remains closed on weekends and public holidays.

The Mettu College of Teacher Education Library offers various online services to support students and staff. These include access to digital books, academic journals, research databases, and other electronic resources. Users can browse the library catalog online, request materials, and get support through email or the library’s website. These services help students continue learning and doing research even when they are not on campus.
